Testimonials

It has been said that the desire to succeed has to come from within, and in the case of Christopher this is clearly true. Christopher was expelled from many schools in Colorado, but at age 30 he decided to turn his life around and earn his GED. However, as he moved from
one facility to another, he was unable to complete his goal because the resources simply were not available to him. He was eager to come to Intervention Community Corrections Services (ICCS) because of the potential to complete his GED through the programs provided by Community Educational Outreach (CEO). On Saturday, March 26, 2010 Christopher passed the final three tests of his GED and earned his certificate. To be fair, not all of Christopher's motivation came from within. His younger sister recently graduated from high school. Her success helped her big brother achieve his goals and his little sister would say, "Brother, you can do this!" Christopher would like to attend Red Rocks Community College and has applied for a scholarship. According to Christopher, going to college will allow him to better himself and become a productive member of society.

Giving Activity

Mission

Community Educational Outreach's mission is to provide educational services to adults with barriers to reach their employment potential.

Background Statement

In 1990, our founders recognized the lack of educational opportunities for inmates transitioning back into the community. At that time, there were no educational services offered to Denver community corrections clients, nor were there any local adult education providers specializing in meeting the distinct needs of people at risk of incarceration. Since its inception, CEO has provided comprehensive instruction - including academic, life and job skills classes - to nearly 7500 addicts, offenders, and community members. CEO has provided more than 600,000 hours of instruction at facilities such as Cenikor, Tooley Hall Women's Facility, Williams Street Center, Intervention Community Corrections Services, Independence House, Community Responsibility Center, Northeast Women's Center, Alpha Center, Department of Corrections Division of Adult Parole, First District Probation Department, Jefferson High School, and Douglas County Libraries, Women's Bean Project, and Attention Homes.
